Our Love Story
First time we meet
NaThalie and I met through Christian Mingle. We were both struggling with online dating apps and decided to try Christian Mingle because it matches our values and might bring someone along. I was giving up and was about to be done with the dating apps altogether. My yearly subscription was ending and I did not want to renew it. I created a generalized message which I sent to a group of matches on there. It basically said “Hey, my name is Cory Colwell, my subscription is ending in a week so I won’t be able to respond if you reply after that. I think you are pretty and would love the chance to get to know you with the intent of work towards a relationship. Here is my phone number.” NaThalie was the only one who responded and she had the Christian Mingle app for about a week and I was one of only a couple people who reached out to her. We started chatting, then texting. I drove the 3 and a half hours to meet her shortly afterwards. She made a nice meal and brought it when she met me. My heart was already won over before that, but I heard “the fastest way to a guy’s heart is through his stomach” and it solidified my feelings and enhanced them for her lol. It’s been a fun and exhilarating time since.

Proposal
I knew pretty quickly that I wanted to ask Nathalie for her hand in marriage and it wasn’t simply because “I’m making up for lost time” Haha. I learned that Jean (Nathalie’s daughter) is learning/playing the clarinet. I came up with a plan to secretly enlist her help as well as Sabine (Nathalie’s mama) to film it with the phone. I decided to do it on Christmas Day. I had Jean learn how to play “Can’t help falling in love” by Elvis Presley and I learned the words. We had a gift exchange and Nathalie’s gift just happened to be last. It was 5 or 6 empty wrapped boxes, getting smaller and smaller with each unwrapping, until the final box which was able to hold the ring box. It had a note on it saying, “This is the final one! Please allow Jean and I to play a song for you before opening.” I gave the phone to Mama Sabine and sat next to Nathalie in our matching pajamas on the floor. Jean and I performed the song together, then I had Nathalie open the box and I gently grabbed it from her hands after she saw what it was. I arranged myself to on 1 knee and explained how much she meant to me and proposed. Nathalie paused for a couple seconds after the question for suspense and then exclaimed “YESsss!!!”
Engagement
We have been communicating about what we want and our expectations. We are both Christian, decided to live separately until marriage, and we are both open to having kids if we are able. We look forward to our undertaking/journey together!
